Ormond Beach Police arrested an 18-year-old Father Lopez Catholic High School student on Monday, Feb. 7, after he made threats of a school shooting on campus.
According to a press release by OBPD, a representative from Father Lopez contacted the Daytona Beach Police Department in the early morning in reference to the threat made by Colin Boyer, of Ormond Beach. After an investigation showed Boyer's city of residence, OBPD took over.
Boyer's arrest report details that Father Lopez administrative staff received an email at 2:25 a.m., signed "A Concerned Student," regarding possible threats of a mass shooting at the school. The email contained two short video clips that had circulated among students via social media platform Snapchat, both depicting Boyer, a senior, speaking into the camera and making "vague threats" to conduct a mass shooting at the school.
“I am very proud of the individual(s) that came forward and reported this incident," said Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey in the press release. "The suspect in this case was quickly identified, contacted, interviewed and appropriately charged in this situation. This is great example of the 'See something, Say something' doctrine and teamwork between the school and local law enforcement agencies.”
Boyer was detained at his home at approximately 7:10 a.m. He admitted to filming a video of himself making the threats and stated "he was just having a 'bad day' and had no intentions of carrying out the threats," his arrest report states. He added that he had an issue with a school administrator.
Boyer was charged with a felony for the threats and was taken to jail.
