While he may still back out if incumbent Congressman Ron DeSantis decides to run for re-election, former Ormond Beach Mayor Fred Costello has officially announced he will run for Congress in Congressional District 6.

Costello initially voiced his intent to run in August of last year, but now that he is confident that DeSantis will run for governor in the 2018 elections, he began his campaign on Jan. 6 with various events throughout District 6, which spans from southern Jacksonville to the St. Johns River, with Flagler and Volusia County at its heart.

Costello has been active in politics since 1999, having served as an Ormond Beach City Commissioner, Ormond Beach mayor and former member of the Florida House of Representatives.

If Congressman DeSantis changes his mind about running for governor, Costello said he will back out of the race and support him for Congress.
