Frida’s, a Mexican restaurant, will open at 195 W. Granada Blvd. by December, and possibly earlier, according to Jorge Najera, who is currently finishing the final details of remodeling the building along with Abraham Navarez. The building previously housed Maria Bonita Mexican Restaurant.

The restaurant is owned by the family that also owns Agave Fresh Mex & Cantina in Ormond Towne Square and restaurants throughout Florida. The restaurant chain was started in 1997 by Pedro Navarez and his wife Gloria. Najera is the nephew of Pedro Navarez and Abraham Navarez is his son.

“We’re putting out own ideas into the restaurant,” Najera said. “It’s an introduction of the second generation.”

He said it will be a fusion of Miami and California style, with Mexican street food on the menu as well as traditional plates.

The restaurant is inspired by Frida Kahlo, a poet and artist. Najera said food is also art, and they will be expressing themselves through their menu at the restaurant.

“We’re super excited,” he said.

Olive oil business under new ownership

Ormond Beach Olive Oil Co., 203 E. Granada Blvd., Suite 203, is now under new ownership by Wendy LaRocca, who also owns The Anointed Olive in DeLand. LaRocca said there will be no major changes and will continue to stock olive oil and balsamic vinegar from Veronica Foods, a well-known supplier, and carry additional items for cooking.

The business had stopped educational dinner parties, and LaRocca plans to get them started again to demonstrate how the oils and vinegars can be used. They will include an appetizer, entrée, dessert and a nonalcoholic beverage. Visit www.theanointedolivellc.com. Call 386-333-9236.
