Fit Park opens at One Daytona

Florida Hospital Fit Park, an outdoor, adult fitness area at One Daytona, opened Feb. 14 and offers free circuit or cross-fit training to the public. Donated by the hospital, the facility has a variety of exercise equipment and is located outside Bass Pro Shop.

Florida Hospital, the official healthcare partner of Daytona International Speedway, sponsors one of the fan injectors at the Speedway where they promote a healthy lifestyle in addition to having first-aid stations.

“We believe in going outside the walls of the hospital to where the public works and plays,” said Darlinda Copeland, CEO at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, at a ribbon cutting for the Fit Park. “In the Injector you see the eight principles of health. This is an extension of that.”

The Fit Park complements a 1.5-mile walking trail along the front of the Speedway which can be accessed by the pedestrian overpass over International Speedway Boulevard.

Jamie McMurray, driver of the No. 1 Camaro ZL1 for Chip Ganassi Racing, talked about the importance of staying in shape and said he ran his first marathon last July.

“It was fun,” he said. “I don’t know if ‘fun’ is the right word but it was quite an accomplishment.”

Chip Wile, president of Daytona International Speedway, told McMurray and the crowd at the ceremony that the Speedway plans to have a triathlon next December with Olympic distances.

Mallory Luchowski, wellness supervisor at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Daytona Beach, said she liked seeing the Fit Park among all of the restaurants and entertainment venues.

“You’re committing a space for activity,” she said.

There is also a public walking track with exercise stations to the west of Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center on Williamson Boulevard in Daytona Beach.

Hair salon for men opens in Ormond

The Men’s Refinery, a hair salon, has opened in the Gaslamp Shoppes at 52 E. Granada Blvd. The shop is owned by Ashly Rose, owner/stylist at Doll Face Hair Finery, which is located next door.

Rose said business at Doll Face has been amazing so she decided to open a counterpart for men. The Men’s Refinery will be unique to the area, she said, even serving craft beer on tap from Ormond Brewing Co. She said she places a value on education for her stylists.

“They understand how a haircut can change a life,” she said. “A good haircut changes everything.”

Xcel Wealth Management was named to the University of Florida’s 2018 Gator100 during a ceremony Feb. 2 at the school.

Sponsored by the UF Alumni Association in partnership with the UF Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center, the Gator100 recognizes the 100 fastest-growing businesses owned or led by UF alumni. Ernst & Young calculated each company’s growth rate over the past three years to generate the ranking.
