The 24 hour online day of giving raised awareness as well as money.

The Community Foundation of East Central Florida’s first ever Give Local Day raised over $29,000 May 6.

So far, the group that included charities from Volusia, Flagler and Putnum has only counted the online donations. They are still adding up money from the 186 donation test drives from the Daytona Auto Mall and the prize money from hourly online competitions.

Lisa Brooks-Thompson of the organization said the money raised wasn’t the only success.

“I would love to be like Broward County and hit $2 million at 11 a.m.,” Brooks-Thompson said. “But we had 46 non profits. That is the first time that amount of non profits from these counties had gotten together. It was pretty cool.”

Community Life Center Outreach Services from Volusia raised the most money. So far they’ve counted to $3,475. In Ormond Beach, Halifax Urban Ministries raised the most with $1,225.
