In addition to opening his own supplement shop, owner Bill Mora also sponsors local bodybuilding contests, one of which is happening in October.

There's a new shop in town for those looking to build muscle, lose weight or just feel better in their own skin.
Muscle Shop Nutrition, located at 144 N. Nova Road., will host its grand opening, led by owner Bill Mora, Sept. 7. The shop will carry dietary supplements, natural nutritional products and items for competitive bodybuilders and figure models — a niche with which Mora is familiar.
Active in sponsoring bodybuilding competitions locally, Mora's next muscle show in town is set for Oct. 5, at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center. The event is sanctioned by the Drug Free Athletic Competition, which requires that all competitors be drug free for seven years.
Like the participants in the competition, the products in Mora’s shop will be all natural. There will be products that prevent muscle breakdown and promote growth, pre-workout supplements, products for fat-burning and appetite control, beef and egg proteins, raspberry keytones for healthy weight loss, whey proteins, vitamins, post-workout recovery products, protein powders, phosphates and more.
But Mora's shop will have products for everyone, not just bodybuilders, he says. And he also plans to feature a "Competitors Corner," where both men and women shoppers can peruse health products usually only available over the Internet, such as custom, handmade posing suits, tanning supplies and special shoes.
“There are a lot of people in Daytona and Ormond Beach who get involved in competitions,” Mora said.
His history with exercise started at the age of 12, when his dad brought home a set of weights. Ever since, he's had a lifelong interest in health and fitness, he says, and he's always anxious to share his knowledge with anyone in need of advice designing a weight-loss or workout plans.
“I enjoy helping people,” he said.
In the October competition at the Performing Arts Center, there will weightlifting competitions for men and women of different age groups, figure competitions, bikini model competitions and athletic contests. Weightlifters will be competing for pro cards, which allow them to compete at higher levels; bikini and athletic body winners will compete for prize money.
Ormond Beach's Christy Bennett is one competitor who plans enter into the bikini part of the show — her first competition.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it,” she said, adding that when it comes to body shaping, “natural is the way to go."
The grand opening at Muscle Shop Nutrition will feature a $40 Contest Preparation Seminar 1-3 p.m., led by Dr. Lane Norton, a professional bodybuilder from Tampa.
Those who want to compete in the show at the Performing Arts Center can get registration forms at flstnatural.com or at the shop. Tickets will also be sold at the shop, as well as at the door.
A portion of the funds collected will be donated to Florida Tour de Force, which helps families of fallen police officers, and Warrior Beach Retreat, for wounded veterans. Mora has personal interest in these charities, he says, being a veteran and former police officer.
Shop hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 479-0769.
