Father Lopez scored early, but DeLand scored late, in a 1-1 tie Friday night.

Things were looking good for Father Lopez through 78:54 of the game, but it was the last 66 seconds that mattered.

Leading DeLand 1-0, late in the second half, Tiffany Larsen turned the ball over in Bulldogs' territory after colliding with the goalie.

DeLand then took the ball up the length of the field and scored the tying goal, with 1:06 left in the game, forcing a 1-1 tie instead of a Green Wave victory.

“We needed to focus a little more, knowing that it’s the end of the game and we have a lead,” Father Lopez head coach Paul Beaudoin said. “We didn’t have everybody coming back and playing defense. We still had the mindset that we wanted to score.”

The Green Wave got their goal early in the game when Allie Lydecker took the ball up the sideline and snuck a shot low and to the left of the goalie, from about 25 yards out.

It was part of a first half that saw Father Lopez controlling the ball in DeLand territory. In the second half, control of the game swung back to the visiting Bulldogs.

Beaudoin said injuries shortened his bench, forcing the players into longer stretches on the field than he wanted.

Sophomore Caitlyn Hogan, for one, missed the game with a concussion, Beaudoin said, and will likely be out until after Thanksgiving.

“She makes things happen, along with Fiona Whitfield, in the middle of the field,” he said. “And we just didn't have that combination. And that’s where we lost a lot of possessions.”

With the tie, Father Lopez remains undefeated on the season, but drops its record to 3-0-2.

Up next for the Green Wave is a game at Geneva Nov. 19, before returning home Nov. 27 to play Flagler Palm Coast.
