Halifax Urban Ministries is seeking financial support after losing a crucial funding grant.

Halifax Urban Ministries is urgently asking for donations after they lost a $79,089 Housing & Urban

Development (HUD) Supportive Housing Grant for the Shelter for Homeless Families. Since the shelter opened in 2006, that grant has funded the program. Funds from this grant also represent

30% of the total revenue source for the Shelter for Homeless Families.

This loss follows the loss of the $40,000 Community Development Block grant last year and the $60,000 Florida Homeless Challenge grant in 2012. In each of these cases, a change in funding priority has been the reason given.

335 families have transitioned from homelessness to permanent housing because of the HUM Family Shelter.

HUM is inviting potential supporters to schedule a tour by calling Mark Geallis at 252-0156. Supporters can learn more and make donations online at www.halifaxurbanministries.org.
