Both the Seabreeze boys and girls teams knocked off Matanzas, 7-0, Thursday.

A year after finishing second in the district, a young — but talented — Seabreeze boys bowling team has its sights set on something much higher: a run at the state title.
The Sandcrabs (2-1) took another step in that direction Thursday, knocking off Matanzas, 7-0, at Bellair Lanes, in Daytona Beach.
The Lady Sandcrabs (1-2) also knocked off the Lady Pirates, 7-0, although Matanzas has just one bowler on its girls team: sophomore Kiersten Miller.
On the boys side, Seabreeze won Game 1, 821-639. In Game 2, Seabreeze’s Joe Juhasz’s 265 led his team to a 889-611 win. Hunter Schuchman’s 232 led Seabreeze past Matanzas in Game 3, 766-524.
Seabreeze didn’t lose any individual matchups in any game in the boys’ match.
Juhasz, who was been bowling competitively for about three years, finished second at states last year. And this year, the sophomore has a legitimate shot at contending for an individual state title, said Seabreeze coach Paul Shuler.
For Matanzas (0-2), many of the boys bowlers are new to the team, coach Rob Roe said. Many of them play baseball for him, too, including Tyler Walls, Sam Colasanti and Cameron Coale.
On the girls’ side (0-2), because Miller is the lone bowler, she will always lose her matches 7-0. And so, her chances at contending at districts will solely rely on averages. On Thursday, she averaged 159, which is a nudge higher than her season average of about 147.
