How did Volusia County students fare in their Florida Standards Assessments?

Spring 2021 student reports will be available in FOCUS mid next week, the school district said.

The Florida Department of Education released Florida Standards Assessment scores on July 29 across the state. These are results from the 2020-2021 school year. VCS highlights are listed below.

  • Third grade ELA met the state average of 54%. 
  • Fourth grade ELA exceeded the state average by 1%.   
  • Fourth grade ELA improved or maintained percent proficient in 21 schools: Blue Lake, Champion, Chisholm, Citrus Grove, Debary, Deltona Lakes, Forest Lakes, George Marks, Horizon, Indian River, Manatee Cove, Ormond Beach, Osteen, Pierson, Pine Trail, Port Orange, Pride, Spirit, Sunrise, Sweetwater, Volusia Pines
  • Fifth grade ELA met the state average of 54%. 
  • Seventh grade ELA improved or maintained percent proficient in 6 schools: Deltona, Heritage, Holly Hill, Silver Sands, Southwestern, Taylor 
  • Fourth grade math improved or maintained percent proficient in 13 schools: Champion, Chisholm, Coronado, Enterprise, Forest Lake, Holly Hill, Ormond Beach, Osteen, Pine Trail, Port Orange, Pride, South Daytona, Spruce Creek
  • Fifth grade math improved or maintained percent proficient 18 schools: Champion, Chisholm, Citrus Grove, Cypress Creek, Edgewater Public, McInnis, Ormond Beach, Osceola, Osteen, Pierson, Pine Trail, Port Orange, R.J. Longstreet, Read-Pattillo, South Daytona, Spruce Creek, Turie T. Small, Woodward
  • Volusia County met the state average of 45% on the geometry EOC.
  •  Eighth grade science proficiency exceeded the state average by 6%.  
  • Volusia County exceeded the state average on the biology EOC by 6%.
  • Five middle schools met or exceeded the state average on the civics EOC: Creekside, Hinson, Ormond Beach Middle, Silver Sands, Southwestern 
  • Five high schools met or exceeded the state average on the U.S. History EOC: Deltona High, New Smyrna Beach High School, Seabreeze, Spruce Creek High School, University
  • Four high schools increased their U.S. History EOC scores from 2019 to 2021: Deland, Mainland, Spruce Creek, Taylor

Spring 2021 student reports will be available in FOCUS mid next week. If you can’t find the report for your student, please contact your school. Hard copies will be delivered to schools and available in the beginning of September.

“No one could have predicted what last year’s school year would look like," Superintendent Dr. Scott Fritz said. "Despite so many obstacles in the face of an unprecedented pandemic, I’m proud of the hard work by students and staff. We are looking forward to the 2021-2022 school year.”
