In a narrow victory over the "Re-pup-licans," the "Demo-cat-ic" party in Halifax Humane Society’s inaugural pet election won this year.
But the real winners, according to Community Outreach Director Tyler Stover, are the animals, 80 of which were adopted through the mock political race.
Early voting in the Election Day promotion ran Nov. 2-6, during which times adoption fees for most pets were reduced 50%. Every adoption counted as a vote, and absentee ballots were accepted on Facebook.
