Hurricane Dorian will continue to drift along Florida's east coast tonight through Wednesday, and though it has decreased to a strong category 2 storm, the National Hurricane Center reported it has become a larger hurricane.
Dorian's maximum sustained winds are near 110 mph, the NHC's 5 p.m. advisory stated, and hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles from its center, and tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles. It moving faster at 6 mph, and is predicted to speed up as it moves toward the northwest or north-northwest tonight.
Dorian is expected to remain a powerful hurricane during the next couple of days, the advisory reported.
Volusia and Flagler County, both under hurricane warnings, should expect to see hurricane conditions overnight. Both counties could see 3-5 feet in storm surge, and water levels could begin to rise before the winds arrive. The NHC states the Atlantic Coast from the Florida Peninsula north of West Palm Beach through Georgia and across southeast Virginia could see 3-6 inches of rain.
Tornadoes are possible near the immediate east coast of Florida through tonight. Bridges will close when winds reach 39 mph in Volusia County, and 45 mph in Flagler County.
An emergency curfew for Volusia cities and unincorporated areas east of the Halifax River will be in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday, and 6 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Thursday.
For Flagler, a curfew will be in effect starting 7 p.m. Tuesday for evacuations zones A, B and F until further notice.
