Upchurch will run unopposed

Sandy Upchurch, of Ormond Beach, will serve as circuit court judge in the seventh judicial circuit of Florida beginning next January. No one else entered the race by the May 2 deadline, so she will run unopposed. Her focus has now shifted from the election to her new job.

“I’m going to concentrate on being the best judge I can be,” she said. She has been advised that judges will be opening up their courtroom to her for observation purposes.

Upchurch said earlier reports about her assignment were not correct. It has not been determined by the chief judge where she will be working, she said.

Upchurch will be leaving her job as mediation counsel for Upchurch Watson White & Max. Prior to her employment there, she was deputy city attorney for Ormond Beach.

OB/GYN facility opens at Florida Hospital

The occasion was also used to honor Dr. Irwin Landau on his retirement after 25 years in the community. Landau left his OB/GYN practice to Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, according to a hospital spokeswoman. His staff will now work at the hospital.
