Injured Daytona Beach Police officer dies at Halifax Health surrounded by family

Officer Jason Raynor is the agency's 10th officer to die while in the line of duty.

Daytona Beach Police Officer Jason Raynor, who was shot in the head on June 23 while on patrol, died at Halifax Health Medical Center the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 17.

“Now more than ever, we ask for all of you to embrace the Raynor family and the Daytona Beach Police Department in your hearts during this devastating time and pray that God will give us all the strength to persevere through this senseless tragedy,” said DBPD Police Chief Jakari Young in a press release. “Jason’s sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

Young asks that the public respect the Raynor family’s desire for privacy at this time. If people would like to send their condolences or offer a donation on behalf of the grieving family,Young asked they do so through DBPD. Those interested may contact [email protected] or call 386-671-5364.

Raynor is the agency’s 10th officer to die in the line of duty. Prior to him, the last police officer to die while on patrol was Officer Kevin Fischer in 1998; the last officer to die from injuries sustained while on duty was Thomas Coulter during a training exercise in 2018.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made; once they are, DBPD states the public will be made aware through its website, social media channels and the DBPD smartphone app.
