The Ormond Beach Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Wednesday morning.

A Jimmy Johns employee rode her bicycle to the rear of the business, at 300 W. Granada Blvd., near the drive-thru window, where she was approached by the suspect.

The suspect “pulled out a silver or chromed firearm and pistol whipped her about the head and facial area,” according to reports. He then demanded her cell phone.

After taking the phone, the suspect fled south Perrott Drive.

A search for the suspect, who was described as an unshaven black male in his 30s with a thin build, short hair and approximately 6 feet, 5 inches tall, included the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Air One helicopter and several Ormond Beach Police Department units.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
