Job growth seen over past year

Flagler County had slightly higher unemployment.

CareerSource Flagler Volusia has released labor market statistics for December. The unemployment rate in the two counties declined by 1% over the year to 5% in December. Out of a labor force of 279,448, there were 14,082 unemployed residents in the region. The Volusia region had an unemployment rate of 5% in December, and Flagler had 5.5%.

Flagler and Volusia counties tied with the Lakeland/Winter Haven metro area for the second highest over-the-year growth in manufacturing employment, both adding 600 jobs.

Nine of the 10 major industries gained jobs over the year, led by education and health services (1,600 jobs) and followed by professional and business services (1,500 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (700 jobs); manufacturing (600 jobs); government (500 jobs); mining, logging, and construction and financial activities (300 jobs each); and leisure and hospitality (100 jobs).
