Independence Day gas prices in Florida this year were the lowest in 13 years, according to the American Automobile Association.

On July 4, 2017, the average gas price in Florida was $2.15, which was 9 cents less than the previous year. In the Daytona Beach area, the average price for gasoline for the holiday was $2.13 — 10 cents less than the national average.

Matt, who preferred his last name not to be used, said that he'd just moved from New York and noticed how much cheaper gas is in Ormond Beach.  He uses his truck for work and fills up four or five times a day.

“If you do smart stuff with your gas, it doesn’t matter what the price is,” he said.

Local resident Darla Widnall said she didn’t notice the price of gas on July 4.

“To be honest, it’s one thing I just don’t think about, because I know I need gas, and I pay whatever price it is.”

The most expensive gas prices in Florida currently are in the West Palm Beach and Boca Raton area, at an average of $2.26. On the other side of the spectrum is the Tampa area, with an average of $2.02 per gallon.
