Andy Romano Beachfront Park became the Volusia County Summer Junior Lifeguard Program's newest location this year, wrapping up its second and last four-day session of the summer July 12.

Held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, the program, for kids ages 9-15, only accepted hopefuls who could already swim 100 yards within 2 minutes and 15 seconds, tread water for five minutes and swim underwater 10 feet.

Campers participated in daily team relays, involving surfboard paddling, swimming, running and beach flags, at the camp. Professional CPR and first-aid training was also provided.

The program started in 1990.
