Critical Care Nurse Kerrie Fallon, of Ormond by the Sea, has become Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center’s first employee to earn her Cardiac Surgery Certification.

“I have always loved the cardiovascular piece of critical care nursing,” Fallon said. “I especially love caring for cardiovascular surgery patients. They can be very sick when they first roll out of the cardiovascular operating room but recover quickly. I wanted to advance my knowledge base ... so I set a goal for myself.”

Introduced in 2005, this designation is for specialty nurses providing care to adult patients during the  first 48 hours after cardiac surgery.

Fallon, a hospital employee since 2007, earned her certification by passing an exam. She is also currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in nursing.
