Crews made it out to Sanchez Park bright and early Saturday morning, Sept. 15, to do their part in cleaning Ormond Beach.
By 8 a.m., about 20 volunteers gathered beside the water for the annual Indian River Cleanup event, which added Sanchez Park to its beautification list for the first time this year. Some of the major items dug out by volunteers include a plastic garbage can and large pieces of plastic green roofing.
Recyclables, cigarette butts, a mattress and other items were also trashed by workers, some of whom came from the city’s Police Athletic League.
WyoTech students also logged community service hours Saturday, at Cassen Park, picking up rubbish along the Halifax.
After four hours of getting their hands dirty, volunteers were gifted tote bags for their efforts, according to Volusia County Site Captain Donald Herbst, and also given newsletters offering other volunteer opportunities.
