Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park has been restocked with sand around 3 p.m. today, and sandbags will be available for Ormond-by-the-Sea residents and others living in unincorporated Volusia until it's all gone.

The county delivered two dump trucks of sand as well as 1,000 pre-filled bags.Volusia County Councilwoman Heather Post urged residents living within the city jurisdictions of Ormond Beach to utilize the municipal locations for sandbags rather than drive to the north peninsula.

"The Bicentennial location in Ormond-by-the-Sea was created to ensure that residents living in the unincorporated area on the barrier island had accessibility to sandbags," Post said on Facebook. "There has been a consistent run on Bicentennial Park and the residents living up there are going without."

Sandbags may be made available tomorrow at Bicentennial, but no official information has been issued. Ormond Beach residents can fill sandbags at the Nova Community Center and the Sports Complex, near ball field 5.

Ormond Beach will make self-serve sand available to as many residents as possible from sunrise to sunset Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Limited staff will be available to help with shovels and bags from 7 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on all days. Sand will remain after 2:30 p.m. but residents should bring their own shovels and bags at that time.

Hurricane Dorian, now upgraded to a category 3 storm, has slowed down and is expected to approach Florida's east coast early next week, the National Hurricane Center reported.

Gov. Ron DeSantis sent a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump requesting that he declare a pre-landfall disaster for all 67 counties in Florida, according to a press release. The governor has also launched the Florida Disaster Fund, the state's official private fund established to assist Florida's communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster.
