New church thrift shop opens in town

The Shoppes at St. James is now open every Friday at the St. James Episcopal Church, the proceeds of which will go toward a new elevator.

Located on the second floor of the Parish Life Center at 38 S. Halifax Drive, the new thrift shop is the outcome of the church’s annual rummage sales. It is sponsored by the Friends of St. James and will sell gently used clothing, furniture, household goods, as well as other related items.

The thrift shop will be open from 10-2 p.m.

Bank donates money for school backpacks

Wells Fargo donated $1,000 in August to the Jewish Federation of Volusia and Flagler Counties for their backpack project.

The money helped to hand out backpacks full of school supplies to 7,000 children in both counties.

Gloria Max, executive director for the local Jewish Federation chapter, said in a press release that the 22-year-old project has been successful and they have now distributed 105,000 backpacks to the local children.
