Datyona's Dancing with Stars will raise money for the symphony society's outreach.

Local “stars” have been practicing with professional teachers for weeks to put on a dancing competition show this Sunday.

They will perform at Daytona’s Dancing with the Stars, a gala fundraising set for 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort, 100 N. Atlantic Ave. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Daytona Beach Symphony Society’s programs that introduce school children to classical music.

The stars will include Mandy Rossmeyer Campbell, of Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson, and actor John Martino, who appeared in "The Godfather," as well as many other films. Miss Daytona Beach 2013 Catie Ferritto will dance at the event as a special guest.

At a recent rehearsal, Joe Mounts, a teacher from Absolute Ballroom, said the stars are doing well in learning the dances.

“They are starting to feel confident and comfortable,” he said. “It’s going to be a really entertaining show.”

Guests at the gala will enjoy food stations, a cash bar, the dance competition and a professional dance showcase. The evening will end with dancing for all.

Mirror ball trophies will be awarded to the best male and female dancers and to the contestant who raises the most money for the youth music education programs.

Judges will include Michael Chitwood, Daytona Beach police chief; Debbie Kruck, owner of Debbie Kruck Fitness and Pilates and the first Miss Fitness USA; and Carol Platig, chief judge, who has 25 years of dance experience.

Tickets to Daytona’s Dancing with the Stars are $75 per person. A vote for a dancer is $10. Purchase tickets and votes online, at www.dbss.org. The Hilton is offering a special room rate for the evening.
