Pine Trail student gets to work with former astronaut.

Seth Kirk, 10, a Pine Trail Elementary School student, recently made his movie debut, working with Chris Ferguson, who was commander of the Atlantis Space Shuttle.

Seth has been involved with Children’s Musical Theater at the Performing Arts Center as well as the European School of Performing Arts in Ormond Beach. He has also performed twice in “The Nutcracker” with the Civic Ballet of Volusia County. He is currently in the upcoming “Willie Wonka” production at the Performing Arts Center.

The movie, called “Journey to Space,” will be released in 2015 and shown in IMAX theaters, according to Seth’s mother, Tina.

Seth said he wants to be a “singer, dancer, actor and director” when he grows up.

“I like to do musicals because I like to sing and dance,” he said.

His mother said he has always enjoyed being in plays.

“This is what he enjoys doing,” she said.

She applied for the role though the movie’s Facebook page and he was selected out of 200 children in Volusia and Brevard counties. After arriving on set at Kennedy Space Center, he was one of only a few to land a speaking role, his mother said.

Seth is on the honor roll at Pine Trail.
