Six Ormond Beach locals competed Sunday, May 19, in Jacksonville's Battle for the Beach, an annual endurance challenge.

This is the third straight competition the local team, comprised of part- and full-time Volusia County Beach Patrol Lifeguards, has won. They bested 43 other competitors in 40 minutes.

Each team of six, completed in a half-mile swim, 50-yard military crawl, 1,000 push-ups, 1,000 sit-ups, 500 pull-ups then finished with another 50-yard crawl to the finish line.

In each aspect of the race, the locals dominated, being the first out of the water and the far-and-away leaders in the military crawl.
