An Ormond Beach author has taken her personal battle with breast cancer and turned it into a message for others.

Sherry Thompson's new book, "Its My Fault: My Journey Through Breast Cancer," was ranked No. 21 on Amazon's Top 100 in the breast cancer category. Thompson said she was especially excited to be just one spot behind "Chicken Soup for the Breast Cancer Soul."

"As many women will tell you, their lives change for the better after breast cancer," Thompson said. "You come to realize, as Mae West said, 'You only live once and, if you do it right, that is enough.' My book has made my life so much better because I am getting the word out to people who have been quiet about feeling blamed for their cancer."

Thompson's book was released in September and, since then, it has been on and off the Top 100 list. It's currently for sale on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and at Notes of Love in Palm Coast. She'll have a book signing Feb. 22 at the BeachHouse Beanery, in Flagler Beach.

"Be it a relative or a friend, cancer is a hard knock to receive, and once you get up from being knocked down, you come up with both fists raised, saying, 'You won't win, cancer; I wont let you make me bitter and angry. I will fight to live the best I can every day!'" Thompson said.
