The unemployment rate in Volusia County, in March 2013, was recorded at 6.9%, and 7.2% in Flagler and Volusia counties combined, which was the lowest since June 2008, when it was 6.7%, according to the Center for Business Excellence.
The March 2013 rate was also 2.2 percentage points lower than the unemployment rate in Flagler and Volusia counties this time last year, the center reported.
In Volusia County, nine of the 10 major industries gained jobs over the year, led by leisure and hospitality, which added 1,300 jobs. The only major industry that reported losses over the year was government, which lost 700 jobs.
