Ormond Strong walked over the Granada Bridge each day for a year, until March 10, 2016, to honor a local National Guard unit, the 265th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, during their deployment in Afghanistan. Members of the unit have once again deployed, and Ormond Strong started a new vigil on July 14 with plans to walk each day. Some of the troops went to Europe, others likely to the Middle-East, though details have not been announced. Debbie Kruck-Forrester, Ormond Strong leader, said soldiers in the 265th, now headquartered in Palm Coast, left on Father’s Day without fanfare, and she wants to show them and all deployed military that they are remembered. U.S. military presence has recently increased in the Middle East. Ormond Strong meets at the bait shop at Cassen Park at 7:30 a.m.
