On homecoming night, the Mainland Buccaneers blanked the Pine Ridge Panthers 63-0 Friday Sept. 19, at Municipal Stadium. The Buccaneers had no problems moving the ball against the Panthers. Their first and only fourth down and non-scoring drive came on their last possession of the game, when their third and fourth backups were playing.

Quarterback Denzel Houston remained hot, throwing five touchdown passes in the first two quarters. He connected with Andrian Killins on a 40-yard score, Kaylo Hannah 23-yarder, Wilfred Taylor 83-yarder, Jacob Tilghman 20-yard and Will Collins on a 19-yard touchdown pass.

“I’m glad that we won, but I feel normal,” Houston said. “I can’t get the big head. I try to keep my head where it’s supposed to be.”

Other scores include two Adrian Killins touchdown runs, a 15-yard run by Ryan Mack and a 1-yard run by Henry Reese.

“I thought we played pretty well,” coach Wilson said. “We have American Heritage next week, so our main focus was to get out of this game healthy, and we did that.” Last year the Bucs lost an ugly game to American Heritage 6-0.

The homecoming king and queen were J.T. Vail and Zhakyia Faircloth.
