Man arrested after he shaved off item bar codes in local retail store

Nov. 13

Family Feud

4:12 p.m. — 100 block of W. Granada Blvd.

Fraud. A mother and one of her daughters arrived at the Ormond Beach police department to report that her other daughter had forged her signature on two large checks last year.

The pair came to the station once again to file a fraud report, as instructed by the State Attorney's Office. Her daughter, who has since moved out of state, wrote two checks in May, 2016 totaling $8,952.25. A year later, police reported the woman seemed unsure if she wanted to pursue charges or not. 

Nov. 21

Shave those prices down

7:27 a.m. — 1500 block of W. Granada Blvd.

Retail theft. A Daytona Beach man was arrested after he used a razor blade to cut the bar codes off items in Walmart and leaving the store without paying for them.

According to police, a store manager witnessed the man place air fryers, air mattresses and a few electronics into his cart and then proceed to remove the bar codes using a razor blade. The man passed all the registers and did not stop to pay for the items. He was stopped by police as he headed to his vehicle pushing the cart. 

Spontaneously, police report, the man said that this was a mistake. 

Nov. 25

Expanded waistline

2:20 p.m. — 1400 block of W. Granada Blvd.

Petit theft. A local 26-year-old man was arrested after he hid hats and face guards in his pants with the intention of stealing from Bealls. 

He was seen stuffing the items into the waistline of his pants and concealing them with his shirt by the store's loss prevention officer. He bypassed the store registers and left the store, where he was met by the store's loss prevention officer who asked him to come inside and wait for police. Police report the man did not comply, and instead ran toward the parking lot.

The man was eventually found by police behind a nearby bank, where he was briefly arrested. After police found he had no failure to appears or prior convictions of theft, they let him go under agreement of a notice to appear.
