Following an armed robbery of an Ormond Beach Chinese restaurant earlier in the week, a 32-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, April 26 by Volusia County Sheriff's Office detectives after his car was spotted at a local motel.

VCSO identified Dewayne Maynard's vehicle from the surveillance video of King Restaurant located at 3768 Roscommon Drive near Halifax Plantation. On Tuesday, April 24, VCSO reported that Maynard entered the restaurant during the lunch rush from an open rear door and pointed a handgun at the husband and wife co-owners of the restaurant. He demanded all the money in the cash register, which came to about $700.

A deputy spotted the vehicle, a 2002 silver Mitsubishi with a rear spoiler, two days later at the Econo Lodge at U.S. 1 and I-95 in Ormond Beach. Detectives had also just learned that Maynard was wanted for committing another armed robbery earlier that day, this one at a pharmacy in Melbourne. He is also linked to at least two other armed pharmacy robberies in Brevard County.

Search warrants of Maynard's car and hotel room revealed several pieces of evidence, including 122 prescription narcotic tablets, VCSO reported.

He faces three felony charges for the Ormond Beach robbery: robbery with a firearm, use of a firearm or deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and grand theft. He also was charged for violating probation for burglary under a separate case. Further charges are expected to arise during the course of VCSO's investigation.

He is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bail.
