Hungry Thief

1:30 a.m. — 500 block of S. Atlantic Ave.

Charging affidavit. A North Carolina man was charged with theft a week after stealing a mega bacon cheese sandwich from the Circle K.

Police responded to a call regarding theft after the man was seen on video grabbing a sandwich and hiding it in his pants. The 55-year-old man left the store without paying for it.

A week later on Aug. 17, the man returned to the Circle K and police arrived after an employee called, wanting the man to be trespassed. When police arrived, the man was trying to check out at the register, but the employee refused to complete the transaction because of the theft the man had committed the previous week.

The man told police he stuck the mega bacon cheese sandwich in his pocket, but was caught red-handed and told to put it back, which he said he did. The employee still wished to pursue charges for the allegedly stolen mega bacon cheese sandwich, valued at $4.25.

Bridging the Age Gap

7:05 p.m. — First block of N. Yonge Street

Arrest. A 42-year-old man from Massachusetts was arrested after lying about his age to police.

Officers observed him pull into the Sunoco Gas Station, and after running his tag through their system, discovered it was expired. Police waited for him to leave the gas station parking lot, but it appeared the man knew they were watching him and moved instead to a different pump.

Police then pulled up behind him and conducted a traffic stop anyways. When the officer asked him his name, he gave them his real first name, but lied about his birthday and last name. Since nothing turned up on their system, police asked him about his social — but the man said he didn’t remember. Then they asked him how old he was and the man replied “20… I mean 42.”

After police confronted him, the man finally gave them his true identity. Police then placed him under arrest for also driving with a suspended license.

Extreme Couponing

5:01 p.m. — 1500 block of W. Granada Boulevard

Arrest. A Palm Coast woman was arrested after scanning a fake coupon at Walmart that reloaded money back onto her gift card.

The 24-year-old woman went into a self-checkout register with three bags of M&M’s. After she scanned them, she scanned a gift card as if to pay for the items, but then pressed the coupon button to use a fake coupon. Police reported it was an “unknown card-like object.” The coupon caused the register to put $49.16 back into the gift card, and alerted for employee help. The woman then passed on the fake coupon to someone else.

Police obtained the gift card in question, and after looking up its past use, found out it had been reloaded and used at multiple Walmart stores across the Central Florida area.
