For the sixth consecutive year, local veterans of the United States Marine Corps gathered Nov. 10, at River Grille on the Tomoka, 950 N. U.S. 1, for an anniversary party.

This year’s event, to celebrate the Marines’ 237th year, was attended by about 70 people, according to Ken Schroeder, party organizer.

“I know of no other military service, other than Marines, that celebrate the birthday of their beloved Corps the way that Marines celebrate each year,” Schroeder said. “It is a big deal, because we love our Corps and never forget fellow Marines and their families.”
