Diana Schaack of the Vietnam Veterans Daytona Beach Chapter 1048 was recently selected as the "Member of the Year" by the Vietnam Veterans Florida State Council and the Associates Vietnam Veterans of America Florida Association.
“Congratulations to our 2020 Member of the Year,’’ said Mary Anne Newman, president of the AVVAFA in a press release. “Her accomplishments are amazing and I’m proud she’s on our team.”
Schaack was nominated by Chapter 1048 past-president Rod Phillips. Current chapter president Bob Adkins also congratulated Schaack.
"She is an important part of our team and I am very proud of her accomplishments and leadership," he said.
Jake Feigenbaum, a Seabreeze High School soccer goalie, was named the Ormond Beach Lions Club Student-Athlete of the month for February.
According to a press release, Feigenbaum ranks 16th in his class. He won the 2018-2019 Coaches Award in Soccer, and aside from sports, is part of the National Honor Society and the Student Government Association.
Feigenbaum is an AICE student with a 4.5 weighted GPA. He plans to pursue a degree in STEM.
Ormond Beach Police Department motor Sgt. John Borzner won second place at the ninth-annual Matt Miller Police Motorcycle Skills Challenge on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Hosted by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, such training challenges attract motor officers from throughout the U.S., according to a Facebook post by OBPD. This annual challenge is named in honor of Seminole County Sheriff's Office motor Deputy Matthew J. Miller, who died in the line of duty in 2011.
"While they can be competitive and friendly, frustrating and fun, they are specifically designed to enhance the skills and safety of police motorcycle operation," the post reads.
