Volusia County residents between the ages of 14 and 20 can enroll in a free Young Poets Mentoring Program that will link them to established poets and result in publication of their work. The program, directed by Volusia County Poet Laureate Dr. David B. Axelrod, starts this fall.

Established poets who would enjoy mentoring are welcome to join the program.

The documentary film, “Louder than a Bomb” will be shown at 2 p.m., Sept. 18, at City Island Library, Daytona Beach, to celebrate the start of mentoring program. The film traces high school poets who compete in poetry slam competitions.

The event will provide details about the Mentoring Program as well as a chance to sign up. Young poets are asked to bring copies of three poems to submit that will help place them with a mentor. For more details, visit volusiapoetlaureate.com, email [email protected], or call Axelrod at 337-4567.
