Michigan man dies after being rescued from water

Volusia County Beach Safety believes the 61-year-old's death was caused by a rip current.

A 61-year-old Michigan man died on Thursday, July 12, in what Volusia County Beach Safety speculates to be a rip current-related incident.

The man, identified as Brian Snook of Bay City, Michigan, was pulled from the water just before 2 p.m. in the 1700 block of A1A in Ormond-by-the-Sea on Wednesday, July 11. Beach Safety responded to the scene, assisting with rescue efforts and initiating CPR. The man was unresponsive and was transferred to the hospital.

He was one of 73 people pulled from the ocean on Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, Florida has seen 10 rip current-related fatalities so far in 2018.
