City manager says city will seek more grants.
City awards contract for parking lot
The City Commission gave approval on June 27 for Hall Construction Co. Inc., of Daytona Beach, to construct a public parking lot at 30 Lincoln Ave. The 0.358 acres was purchased by the city from Riverside Church and currently has a building used as a gift shop that will be demolished. The amount approved is $146,388.00.
It will provide 38 parking spots for the downtown area. The estimated time for completion is 10 weeks.
Shanahan gets rave reviews
City Manager Joyce Shanahan received excellent reviews for her work in a recent evaluation, continuing the trend of high marks she has received each of her seven years running the city. She and City Attorney Randy Hayes are the only two city employees who are hired by the City Commission.
Overall, she received a 4.96 average score by the commission in several categories, with 4 being “exceeds expectations” and a 5 being “outstanding.”
Shanahan said that in the coming year she will continue to focus on identifying grant programs, pointing out the city has received $10 million in grant funds in the last five years. As an example, she said the city was recently notified it has a received a $1.2 million grant to expand reuse water to the South Peninsula.
