Motorcyclist dead after struck by lightning on I-95

Florida Highway Patrol reported the victim was Benjamin Austin Lee, of Charlotte, North Carolina.

A 45-year-old North Carolina motorcyclist died after his helmet was struck by lightning on I-95 on Sunday, June 9.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that Benjamin Austin Lee, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was

traveling southbound on the interstate near mile marker 270 between the State Road 40 and U.S. 1 exit in Ormond Beach when he was struck around 2:12 p.m. Lee lost control of his motorcycle, and was ejected from it after leaving the roadway. 

FHP said the crash remains under investigation.
