J. Scott Nicol, an internationally collected artist dubbed “America’s Premier Painter of Books,” will be in Ormond Beach’s Ocean Art Gallery on Saturday, April 2, for the opening reception of his month-long show entitled “Pop Realism – The Creation Process.” The artist will be available from 5-8 p.m. to share with clients and guests how he accomplishes his strikingly beautiful and creative paintings.

Nicol is Ocean Art Gallery’s featured artist for April. His multi-piece exhibit of colorful paintings of books, filling the east wall of the gallery, will be the highlight of his month-long show titled “Pop Realism – The Creation Process.” As one of the top pop culture photorealist artists in the United States, Nicol’s art is collected by local, national and celebrity collectors, including Oprah Winfrey, Drew Carry, ‘Lil Wayne, professional athletes and many New York Times bestselling authors. Nicol has created over 100 original oil paintings featuring over 450 book covers from his imagination and love of pop culture. Celebrities featured on his covers include Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson and a bevy of musicians, singers and actors.

“Having Scott Nicol in our gallery is another positive opportunity for us to deliver the finest artists to our clients who collect art at the highest levels. Scott’s oil paintings are so lifelike and intriguing that many who view them exclaim, ‘They cannot possibly be paintings!’ Yet, they are," said Frank Gromling, gallery owner and director.

Gromling has arranged for Nicol to present a talk entitled “The Stages of Painting Photorealism” on two different dates so his collectors and future collectors can learn how he creates his works. He will demonstrate his techniques and describe his different steps from start to finish, with examples of his work in various stages on display. Reservations are required for both 5:30 p.m. talks on April 7 and 28 by calling the gallery at 386-317-9400.

Ocean Art Gallery is located in Granada Plaza at 197 E. Granada Blvd. Frank Gromling and his staff are available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from 12-5 p.m. www.oagart.com.
