With its candle-lit atmosphere and scenes of Italy hand-painted on the walls, a new restaurant in Ormond Beach is like a visit to the old country.
Limoncello North, located at 1185 W Granada Blvd, Suite 5, in the Tuscany Shoppes, is owned by Gary Langevin, also known as Chef Gary, who learned cooking from his mother at the family restaurant in Naples, Italy.
“My first job was at age 9, washing dishes while standing on chairs,” he said.
The chef at Limoncello, Antonio Gialone, also started cooking at an early age and knew Langevin in Italy when they were young.
“You couldn’t get any more authentic Italian than this,” Langevin said.
But food is just part of the experience. Each week, they have Wine Down Wednesday, which features live guitar entertainment, and on Saturday they have piano.
But diners could hear live music anytime. Langevin and his uncle, Luigi Caseigali, often fill the dining room with music when they are in town with Chef Gary singing and Caseigali on guitar.
“I like to give the customer an experience,” Langevin said. “You can eat a meal at home.”

Langevin plans to open Limoncello South in New Smyrna Beach at the end of September.
He owns restaurants in other cities and heard about this area from an employee. He decided to open in New Smyrna Beach and later found a space available in Tuscany Shoppes.
“I fell in love with Ormond Beach,” he said. “Everybody talks about Daytona. Ormond is a hidden jewel.”

Real Estate cooling off?
Single family home sales fell 5.3% around the greater Daytona Beach area in June compared to the same month last year and fell 7.2% from May 2018, according to an analysis of MLS date by Ron Wysocarski, broker and CEO of Wyse Home Team Realty in Port Orange.
Median sales prices were up 2% from a year ago, but down about 3% from May.
“The local real estate market remains strong, but we are seeing some signs that the frenzied pace of the market may settle into a more natural rhythm,” Wysocarski, said.
June 2018: 476 single-family sold at median price of $220,000.
June 2017: 503 single-family homes sold at median price of $215,000.
May 2018: 513 single-family homes sold at median price of $227,500.
The U.S. Commerce Dept. reported recently that national sales in June fell 5.3% from May, but increased 2.4% from one year ago.
Prices fell nationally. The national median sales price for June was $302,100, compared to $309,700 in May and $315,200 in June 2017.
Local inventory of homes fell slightly in June from May, but the number of single-family homes listed in June was 8% higher than it was in June 2017.
The area condo market saw sales levels recover in June, after falling in May. There were 151 condo units sold in June 2018 while there were 134 condo units sold in June 2017. Year to date, sales are down nearly 3 percent from last year.
Condo sale prices fell. Median sales prices for condos in June were $182,000. The median price in May of this year was $214,000 and in June of last year is was $215,000.
Condo inventory reports show there were 1,045 units that were active on the MLS at some point during June. That’s down from 1,084 units listed on the MLS in May, but still up from the 977 condo units that were active during June 2017.

Subaru donates blankets
Subaru of Daytona and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of North and Central Florida partnered to make a donation of blankets and totes for oncology patients at Halifax Health. Each blanket included a note of inspiration from Subaru of Daytona customers and staff, according to a press release. Daytona Subaru made the donation as part of the Subaru Loves to Care Campaign.
