Wild Rabbit Café will soon be burrowing its way to Ormond Beach with its second location finding a home in the Gaslamps Shoppes on Granada.

The café prides itself on its usage of fresh local produce and ingredients, as well as its vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu. Despite being located in Palm Coast, Wild Rabbit Café has gained a large loyal Ormond following over the past two years.

Laura Hannan, owner of Wild Rabbit Café,  said Ormond residents had been messaging them on Facebook and showing her photos of empty storefronts near their homes as she contemplated opening a second location.

“It was really wonderful, the outpouring of support that the Ormond crowd has already shown, so it just seems like a natural step for us as we were expanding,” Hannan said.

The new Wild Rabbit Café will be located in the old Kale Café storefront, which downsized to one space in the Gaslamps Shoppes in late February. Lewis Heater, owner of the Gaslamps Shoppes on Granada, said he expects Wild Rabbit Café to do well and have a presence there on a daily basis.

He said expanding into Ormond was a natural fit for Wild Rabbit Café, something that Hannan echoed, being a former Seabreeze high school teacher.

“It’s just a natural fit with what we currently do to build community in Palm Coast and we see that location just being perfect for our values as a restaurant,” Hannan said.

Hannan had been searching for the right location to open a second storefront for over a year, and the Gaslamps Shoppes felt right.

“We really like that in the Gaslamps shoppes and in that strip of downtown Ormond, we’re gonna be surrounded by so many like-minded businesses,” Hannan said.

Heaster’s goal for the shoppes was to have small local businesses that support the community and in turn, are supported by them. He hopes Wild Rabbitt Café will do just that.

“We have a good mix of tenants that kind of have a good synergy with each other and I think it’ll compliment the tenants really well.”

The new Wild Rabbit Café will have a different ambiance than its location inside the Fitness One gym in Palm Coast, Hannan said. She believes the Ormond location will not only attract local residents, but diehard Palm Coast residents willing to make the drive. The storefront is planned to open its doors in the fall.
