A New York man was arrested Monday, July 24, after robbing the Coral Sands Inn at gunpoint.

According to the Ormond Beach Police Department, 29-year-old John Elliot approached the front desk of the inn shortly after midnight and asked if they had a vacancy. The front desk manager responded that they did, and Elliot pulled out a gun and pointed at her and her coworker.

She told police Elliot asked both women to give him the money from the cash registers. After the women complied, Elliot grabbed the money and fled out the door.

Coral Sands’ maintenance man told police he saw Elliot drive off southbound on Ocean Shore Boulevard. He was later stopped by police in the 1200 block of Ocean Shore Blvd., where he was identified as the armed robbery suspect.

Elliot was consequently arrested on charges of armed robbery and grand theft. He was transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
