Brush fire burns 140 acres; 80% contained
A brush fire that started west of Ormond Beach, Feb. 19, is burning approximately 140 acres.
Fire crews from Volusia County, Ormond Beach, Flagler County, Rima Ridge and Florida Forest Service were called around 1 p.m. to the location, on State Road 40 and Rodeo Road, after the fire started.
As of Tuesday morning, according Volusia Fire Services spokesman John Pasqualle, the fire was about 80% contained. He added the cause of the fire is unknown, and crews are currently investigating.
Pasqualle said fire crews were back at the location Tuesday morning to continue work.
City OKs Sunoco station on first reading
The City Commission unanimously approved, on the first reading, an ordinance rezoning the lot at 460 S. Atlantic Ave., from highway tourist commercial to planned business development.
The rezoning will allow Sunoco Inc. to demolish the existing convenience store and eight fueling stations and re-construct a 2,455-square-foot Sunoco convenience store with six fueling positions.
ATM tampered with
An Ormond Beach man reported to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office that his bank detected unusual activity on his ATM card, which was last used at Publix Supermarkets in Ormond by the Sea.
A Sheriff’s Office deputy contacted the grocery store and reviewed the ATM’s security footage, which, according to the report, showed a man approach the ATM acting suspicious. The man was carrying a bag or briefcase and stood extremely close to the ATM with his hands and arms out of view.
The same man was seen two more times on the surveillance video doing the same thing.
According to the report, Publix told the deputy there was no surveillance footage within the ATM, and the only footage available was the grocery store’s.

Commission hears 2012 financial report
Mike Sibley, of James Moore and Co., presented the Ormond Beach City Commission with its annual financial report Feb. 19, at a meeting.
According to the presentation, revenues and transfers into the general fund totaled $29.41 million in the 2012 fiscal year, and expenses and transfers out totaled $27.37 million.
