City to change drinking water disinfectant 

The city of Ormond Beach will temporarily modify the disinfectant used in its drinking water starting Oct. 7 and running through Oct. 28. Disinfection will be performed with application of free chlorine (a stronger disinfectant) rather than chloramines, a common practice, according to the city.

Customers may experience a slight difference in the taste and odor of the water. Customers on dialysis, using proportioning machines to prepare dialysate, are advised to contact their physician to obtain the appropriate steps to accommodate this change in water disinfectant use. Customers with fish tanks are advised to contact a professionals to minimize any adverse effects on sea life.

Granada Boulevard to be closed nights

There will be evening lane closures on Granada Boulevard between Washington Street and Beach Street from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sept. 30 through Nov. 22, for the installation of landscaping, irrigation and decorative lighting within the raised medians.

Airport traffic up 7% in August

Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 7% in August compared with August of 2012.  During the month, 53,518 passengers flew in or out of the county-operated airport compared with 50,047 passengers last August.

For the 12 months ending Aug. 31, passenger traffic at the airport increased 2%, from 586,912 passengers last year to 596,515 passengers this year.

“Delta Air Lines and U.S Airways reported combined passenger loads of 90 percent in August while offering nearly 5,000 additional seats in the market compared to last August," said Rick Karl, the airport’s director.

Public Works Report

Urban Forestry removed dead trees at Nova Community Center.

Street Maintenance Crews cleaned debris from the Granada Bridge walkway, trimmed bushes along State Road 40 and trimmed bushes west of the police station.
