Highbridge Road bridge will be closed as the county works to repair a malfunction. Hand Avenue construction continues, and more.

Land-locked: Bridge closed

Due to a Jan. 17 operating malfunction, Highbridge Road bridge will remained closed to vehicle traffic until further notice, according to Volusia County officials.

The county’s Public Works Department was replacing the bridge’s wooden fender system when the malfunction occurred. Repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed by Feb. 1.

The bridge is commonly referred to as Highbridge Road, but its official name is L.B. Knox Bridge.

Update: Hand Avenue construction continues

Excavation work for a the new roadway on the 600 Block of Hand Avenue will begin Feb. 4, bringing with it heavier truck traffic.

Zev Cohen, the construction company, is encouraging residents west of Oak Brook Drive to enter and exit the area through Oak Brook Drive and Woodgate Circle.

The Magic Forest Rainbow Playground and surrounding areas will be closed Feb. 3-22, while Project R.O.M.P. works to renovate the park.

Back to school: Officer gets FBI training

Lt. Robert J. Godfrey, of the Ormond Beach Police Department, is attending the FBI National Academy, a 10-week course in Quantico, Va., aimed at improving local law enforcement standards, knowledge and cooperation worldwide.

Correction

An Ormond Beach police officer located a stolen vehicle at 753 Sante Fe Ave., where he fired one shot as the suspect drove away.
