St. Johns board elects officers
The St. Johns River Water Management District’s governing board recently elected Maryam H. Ghyabi, of Ormond Beach, to serve as vice chairman for the coming year. She was first appointed to the board in 2009.
Ghyabi is CEO of Ghyabi and Associates Inc., of Ormond Beach, a transportation, engineering and planning firm. She is the founder of the International Speedway Boulevard Coalition, which aims to improve the ISB corridor.
The board elected John A. Miklos, president of Bio-Tech Consulting Inc., an Orlando-based environmental consulting firm, as board chairman. Also elected were George W. Robbins, of Jacksonville, as treasurer, and Fred N. Roberts Jr., of Ocala, as secretary.
Board members are appointed by the governor to four-year terms and serve without pay.
Halifax Women’s Golf Association donates to Florida Hospital
The Halifax Women’s Golf Association raised nearly $5,000 for Florida Hospital Flagler and Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center in its second-annual golf tournament, at the Halifax Plantation Golf Club, 3400 Clubhouse Drive, in October. The funds will help the hospitals provide mammograms and other diagnostic procedures to local women in need.
City announces holiday garbage collection
There will be no household waste or recycling collection on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 28, with a makeup day for garbage set for Monday, Dec. 2, and a makeup day for recycling set for Thursday, Dec. 5.
The yard waste schedule will remain unchanged. Call 673-0800.
