Ocean Child boutique building receives Chamber Beautification award

The Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce awarded its business beautification award to Casa Granada, home of Ocean Child Boutique.

The award was given out on Ocean Child's eight-month anniversary. According to the OBCC website, each year, the chamber recognizes residents and business who maintain and improve the quality of life in Ormond Beach, and, who instill pride in the lifestyle of its commercial and residential areas.

The chamber also awarded a beautification award to the city's Huguenot Park and residents Jeffrey and Sandra DePew, Ron Frederick and John and Penelope Norton.

Seabreeze High School joined the over 2,600 planned walkouts across the nation on April 20 to acknowledge the National School Walkout movement advocating for gun violence prevention.

The students all left their classrooms at 10 a.m. According to the National School Walkout website, the mission of the walkout was to honor those who have lost their lives to gun violence, talk about the problems the U.S. is facing and find solutions to those problems. The three-part goal of the event is to hold elected officials accountable, promote solutions to gun violence and engage students in the political system.

Ormond Beach Mayor receives 2018 Home Rule Hero Award

Bill Partington as a Home Rule Hero for 2018 thanks to his efforts to protect the Home Rule powers of Florida's cities during the 2018 legislative session.

According to a city press release, this is Partington's fourth consecutive year of receiving the award. Home Rule is defined as the ability for a city to handle local problems with minimal state government interference. The Home Rule Hero Award is given to local government officials who consistently helped the League reach out to legislature to advocate for the importance of Home Rule.

recently donated almost 2,000 pounds of non-perishable food to Halifax Urban Ministries and Food Brings Hope as well as nearly 650 diapers for Family Renew Community. 

The food donated to the nonprofit organizations will help feed children on the weekends who receive free or reduced-price school lunches. The diapers donated to Family Renew Community will go to homeless parents working to support their families in a home of their own.

officers and other first responders on Tuesday, April 17. 

The event, "Supporting Life Behind the Thin Blue Line," featured guest speaker Jen Satterly, co-founder and executive director of the All Secure Foundation. She and her husband started All Secure Foundation to provide support to the families of veterans in the face of challenges after a lifetime of supporting their loved ones' decision to serve.
