False alarm

12:58 a.m. — 500 block of Ridgewood Avenue

Suspicious incident. Officers were sent to a local residence after 911 dispatchers received a text warning of screaming neighbors and gunfire coming from inside.

According to a police report, dispatchers tried to get more information from the caller, but the individual, who never identified themselves, did not respond to any follow-up texts. When officers arrived at the home in question, all was quiet. They were able to confront one of the residents as he exited the home to go to his car, and officers detained him in order to perform a well-being check on the rest of the house.

The resident was angry and insulted officers, telling them there had been no shooting. Everyone inside the home told officers the same thing, a neighbor corroborated their story, saying he had also not heard any gunshots.

Dispatchers were unable to determine who sent the false text message.

Red, white and drink

9:40 p.m. — First block of West Granada Boulevard

DUI. Police arrested a 62-year-old Ormond Beach woman who was involved in a crash while drunk driving on the Fourth of July.

The reporting officer observed the woman sitting in the driver's seat of her vehicle with the keys in the ignition, and upon initial contact, immediately smelled the scent of consumed alcohol. He soon informed her he would be asking her to conduct a few field sobriety exercises, and asked if she had any physical problems with her back, legs or balance. The woman said that she did, but when asked to be specific, she said she had problems "all over."

The woman failed the field sobriety exercises and was taken to the police station for paperwork, where police also attempted to collect a breath sample from her; however, the woman failed to obey instructions, according to the report, and would suck air in rather than blow into the machine, or. place her tongue on the machine to block air.

She was issued a DUI citation for the crash and taken to jail after she was medically cleared at the hospital.
