Officers save suicidal man who jumped from Granada Bridge

A man jumped from the Granada Bridge Friday morning, but was rescued by Beach Patrol.

At around 7:10 a.m. on Friday, officers from the Ormond Beach Police Department reached a suicidal man on the Granada Bridge.

The man was sitting on railing on the north side of the bridge, and police report he was making suicidal statements. Officers spoke with the individual as Beach Patrol officers set up on the water underneath the bridge in case he decided to jump. After an hour of speaking with police, the man launched himself from the bridge into the intracoastal waterway.

Beach Patrol officers immediately set out to rescue him from the water, and was retrieved in a conscious and alert state, according to OBPD.

He was taken into police custody and transferred to Halifax Hospital for treatment.
