Two people were seriously injured in a car on North U.S. 1 on Dec. 7.

A truck driver was killed and two occupants of a passenger car were seriously injured about 6:20 a.m. Dec. 7 on North U.S. 1 near Lowndes Avenue.

The 2004 semi-truck was travelling north on U.S. 1 and the four-door Chevrolet was traveling south.

The truck driver exited the vehicle as it was in motion and fell onto the roadway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He was then run over by the truck. His injuries were fatal, and his identity is being withheld until next of kin can be identified.

The truck, driverless, then traveled across the median and into the southbound lanes, striking the front of the Chevrolet head-on.

The two occupants of the Cheverolet, driver Roberto Jaimes, of Seville, and passenger Rosalva Rangel, of Crescent City, were transported to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries.

The truck was empty and traveling north from the Miami area. The truck driver was said to be from Miami Gardens. The crash remains under investigation.
